Axis Mundi

‘Axis Mundi – A story about a tree in three parts’ is based on a belief many cultures share that a tree, the Axis Mundi, holds up the cosmos. The World Tree is said to dwell in three worlds: Its roots reach down to the underworld, its trunk sits on the Earth, and its branches extend up to the heavens.

Movement director and choreographer Fleur de Thier and multi-disciplinary artist Simon van der Sluijs have once again collaborated on creating a new work: ‘Axis Mundi’. For the last 10 years Fleur and Simon have developed their unique and very successful brand of theatre with a mix of dance, physical theatre, puppetry and mask work, poetry and music. Most recently with ‘Mantra’ (2019) and ‘Requiem’ (2022/23) which were performed in LAF for sold out houses.

TERCET - Hagley Theatre College

Hagley Theatre School presents Tercet, a singing, movement, and mask improvisation showcase in three 25-minute acts.

This snapshot of student practice taught by Rachael Schönberger, Fleur de Thier, and Pedro Ilgenfritz invites the audience to enjoy our students’ engagement with voice practice, movement composition, and mask improvisation.

Tercet is a poetic triad showcasing our students’ ability as storytellers, their skills as performers, and their desire to connect with each other, the audience and the art of theatre.
